Architect Gerald Abramovitz, 82, Dies Two Weeks After Being Beaten And Robbed

The story of architect Gerald Abramovitz, came to an end yesterday when he died in New York at Mount Sinai Hospital. His cantilever desk lamp is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

Abramovitz was visiting his friend on the Upper West Side on the evening of May 25 when he was attacked from behind. While Mr. Abromovitz was waiting for his friend, Gene Koretz, to let him in, the mugger approached and struck him on the back of the head, took his wallet and ran.

A man described as elderly, was reportedly attacked on a CTA bus. The alleged incident occurred Friday, June 17, 2011, at approximately 11:25 p.m. At 11:56 p.m., the purported victim was still waiting for the police to arrive.

Awareness and Self-Defense

Whether in the dense foliage of the tropical jungle or on the asphalt paved streets of the urban jungle, the first step to survival is AWARENESS. Awareness of what we receive through our eyes and ears and what we perceive through our "sixth sense", the one honed through a lifetime of experience. Whether it is a lioness running down an eland or someone looking to hurt you or steal from you, predators attack from behind, the so-called blind side. While some people seem to be born with eyes behind their heads, or a sensitivity to the barely conscious feeling that all is not well, being alert to anything out of place or out of the ordinary can be learned and most certainly can be improved upon. Every one of us can be attacked and every one of us, no matter how highly trained, can be defeated. But what we should never be is surprised.

Teen Mobs Suspected In Downtown Assaults

The latest incidents in Chicago apparently started about 8:20 p.m. Saturday, when a 68-year-old man from Washington state was sitting on a bench smoking a cigar in the 300 block of East Chicago Avenue as the young men approached, authorities said. The group beat him, robbed him of an iPad and BlackBerry and fled the scene, authorities said...

Police, however, have stressed that this phenomenon, involving large groups of teens, is not unique to Chicago. Philadelphia has had problems with mobs of teenagers, who also used social networking technology, assaulting pedestrians and vandalizing property since at least last year, according to media reports...

Two teens charged after attempted carjacking, robbery of elderly woman

Two Chicago teenagers have been arrested after the attempted vehicle hijacking and robbery of a 79-year-old woman, police said Thursday...

The woman then began screaming and yelling and the two teens fled on foot...

Chicago, IL—They are calling them “Wildings”, the latest fad for idle young Blacks. They use texting and social networks to form large groups to take control of stores, businesses and now beaches. The plan is simple, to rob, beat and molest as many non-Blacks as they can.

Police resources are very slim and the thugs have easy and cheap transportation to the areas they have victimized.

Trulia To Show 50 City's Crime Trends

Thinking of moving, but don’t want to get stuck on a high-crime block?

At 10 a.m. Thursday, Trulia, a residential real-estate website, is expected to launch a new mapping tool that allows home buyers, sellers and renters to look at citywide crime trends in 50 metropolitan areas, including Chicago.

The system, called Crime Maps, lets users search a year’s worth of crimes on a block-by-block level.
